"A child for the child" was one of Kathe Kruse's mottos. Kathe was born Katharina Simon in Germany on Sept 17th, 1883, and started making dolls for her own children during her mid-twenties. Her dolls were like miniature children- soft, warm, and with age-appropriate features.

Around 1908-1910 Kathe Kruse began producing her dolls commercially, and the Kathe Kruse Doll Company (now a division of EuroToys) has been in business for over 80 years. These dolls really hold their value. Antique Kathe Kruses sometimes sell for over $10,000 today. Modern Kathe Kruse dolls are just as cuddly and charming as their predecessors, but typically retail between $50 and $1,000.
