16 ½” All-Original Simon & Halbig #1358 Black Bisque Character Doll, German, circa 1880,  not incised with the “1358” mold number, instead has an incised  “5” low on bisque head and what appears to be an incised “0” high on the rim, extremely rare character face with open mouth, large molded and red painted ethnic lips, six tiny upper teeth, dark brown paperweight eyes, left eye has rim chip (upper inside rim) as well as small area of damage to glass eye itself, thick single stroke brows, original short curly black skin wig, very deep black color to fired bisque which is so hard to find, matching deep black color to original early composition straight-wrist body, original clothes including simple day dress and apron, sleeves on dress are early replacements and left sleeve is torn, shoes have been replaced, straight wrist body style and paperweight eyes further support that this is an early example which predates the marked #1358’s, a fabulous doll from its original Stratford, NJ estate in all-original condition (excepting the shoes), a true “wow” doll.
