13 ¾” Bru Jne Bebe, French, bisque head circa 1884-1889, incised “Bru Jne” along with size number 4, blue paperweight eyes, thick feathered brows, open mouth with slightly visible molded tongue, bisque is slightly grainy, few specks to bisque on cheeks, rub to bisque under right ear lobe and also chin rub, pierced ears, chip at right piercing hole, replaced Bebe style brown mohair wig, head has classic wing screw attachment securing it to the bisque shoulder plate and does not appear to have been tampered with or removed from body, however body features bisque shoulder plate with squared kid leather at neck and size number “2/0” marking which is typical of the Bru Bebe Brevete (circa 1879), perfect bisque hands, attachment of head and body with original wing screw would seem to indicate that this unusual head and body pairing was original from the factory, blue dress made from antique materials, antique blue leather unmarked shoes, antique straw hat with original trims marked in park “EVE” on interior silk lining, antique enamel doll necklace, also comes with old price tag and an envelope which states PLEASE DO NOT OPEN UNTIL ADVISED, envelope contains labels which read Lillian Russell, lovely Bru for a very good price, this doll comes from the collection of the late Katherine (“Kitty”) Pye of Boston, MA (1932-1998) and was acquired from her daughter-in-law Barbara Pye of NJ $18,750.

14 ½” All-Original Waltzing Steiner, circa 1867, retains original (atypical) kid leather bellows mechanism (which is beautifully preserved and intact), also retaining original paper label which states that the doll was delivered to M.Fontaine on October 29, 1867, pictured in Dorothy A. McGonagle’s book The Dolls of Jules Nicolas Steiner (described on page 40, pictured on page 41 illustration 4 and also on color plate 2 towards front of book), remarkable condition and a very rare doll, features blue paperweight eyes, feathered brows, some minor speckling around left eyelid and on left eyebrow, beautiful pale white bisque, open mouth with upper and lower teeth, original bisque arm with all fingers intact, pierced ears, replaced blond mohair wig, original clothes, in good working order, original key wind mechanism on side $8,500.

15 ½” Series A Steiner Bebe, French, circa 1887-1890, pressed bisque head incised “A. 17 PARIS” along with “Le Parisien” stamp in red, big blue paperweight eyes, heavy feathered brows, closed mouth, painted upper and lower lashes, faintest nose rub, faint rub underside of chin, dimple in chin, pierced ears, small piercing hole chip on right ear lobe, pouring line (thicker area of bisque from the factory) inside bisque neck socket, original extra-long brown human hair wig with original pate, on original composition straight-wrist body with classic Steiner slender fingers, doll exhibits some yellowed streaks from original vanish to body but no repainting, retains original Steiner paper label on hip, body retains 4 small round factory holes which may have indicated a pull-string crier mechanism was one present, fabulous antique clothes (including silk Bebe dress, undergarments, hat, and earrings) are possibly, white leather shoes and socks are antique but probably later replacements, slip is illegibly marked with a faint stamp, a stunning doll with a huge presence, from a NY collector who was told that the doll’s name has always been “Sarah Jane”. Was $8,500 now on Sale $7,900. |
